Napapijri Universe

Napapijri's journey from makers of travel bags to an authentic lifestyle brand spans almost four decades.
From the meaning of its name, to the iconic Norwegian flag, Napapijri's original inspiration came from the timeless appeal of polar expeditions. To this day, collection after collection, the brand strives to capture the essence of exploration as a cultural and aesthetic experience through a distinct style applied to functional apparel.

Our Story

A journey across seasons, cultures, and landscapes.

1987

Named after the Finnish term for the Arctic Circle, Napapijri tracks its origins in the late 1980s in Aosta as a family-run, pioneering brand specialising in technical backpacks and bags designed for discerning travelers. Drawing inspiration from polar explorers, Napapijri utilised waxed cotton canvas, known for its durability and weather resistance. This choice of fabric set the tone for the brand's future in material research.

1990

As the new decade dawned, Napapijri's innovative spirit led to an expansion into apparel. The brand applied its technical expertise while introducing its distinctive style that set it apart from conventional sports brands.
This year marked the birth of the iconic Skidoo Anorak. With its unique blend of patches, colours, and the emblematic Norwegian flag, it quickly catapulted Napapijri into urban fashion circles.

1995-2000s

By the mid-90s, Napapijri had positioned itself at the center of a rich network of contemporary adventurers, environmental advocates & cultural explorers. Through these collaborations, the brand consolidated its presence in the world of exploration and developed its unique point of view on cultural and environmental issues.

2015/2016

In a bold move towards sustainability, Napapijri implemented its 'No Fur, No Down' policy. This significant shift saw the brand stop using both animal fur and down in its products.
Napapijri introduced innovative alternatives: eco-fur, made of synthetic Kanecarbon® fibers, and THERMO-FIBRE™, an advanced insulating filling.

2019

Continuing its trajectory of innovation and sustainability, Napapijri launched the groundbreaking Circular Series. This collection introduced the world's first 100% recyclable, 100% mono-material jackets, setting a new standard in circular fashion.

2023

The appointment of Christopher Raeburn as the brand's first Global Creative Director marked a new chapter in Napapijri's story. Under this new creative leadership, the brand has strengthened its focus on innovation, design, and the rediscovery of its unique heritage and archive.

From iconic materials such as Cordura® and waxed cotton canvas, to regenerative materials with a lower environmental impact such as RWS Wool and Good Earth Cotton® , all of our collections channel our commitment to outstanding materiality, performance, and functionality.

Innovation

Innovation is deeply connected to our exploration roots. Always pursuing the path less taken, research pushes us to look for new techniques and materials that allow us to translate our authentic style into a sustainable vision.

Sustainability

We believe that sustainability is the new creativity, inspiring new ideas, paths, and innovation. This design philosophy guides our effort to reach 100% of materials from regenerative and responsibly sourced, renewable or recycled sources by 2030 through four strategic pillars: circularity, durability, traceability, and better-sourced materials.
