"Associazione Grande Nord" is organizing an expedition to the Svalbard Islands in the Arctic Ocean to the north of Norway.
Most of the Svalbard archipelago is under ice. The word Svalbard, in fact, means "cold shores".
At the northern limit of the Arctic Ocean, these islands have no roads or even trees, just infinite expanses of ice and sea.
Canoes, sledges, rubber dinghies and helicopters are the usual means of transport within the Arctic Circle. Day-to-day life is hard and requires a certain spirit of self sacrifice. On the positive side, nature is unspoilt, albeit hostile.
